2010 Annual Spring Workshop

Cardigan Lodge April 23-25 2010 This workshop is designed to offer instruction in safe mountain travel, introduce beginners to three season hiking skills, and introduce intermediates to advanced hiking and leadership skills. All groups will spend extensive time outside.

Your time will be divided between your individual class and activities for the entire workshop. Each class runs for the duration of the workshop, so you may participate in only one class per workshop.

Choose one of the following available classes. Once you find the class for you, go to the "How to Register" section below and follow the instructions. If you are not sure which class is right for you, just ask one of our Workshop Directors. You can find out how to contact the directors or get an application mailed to you is at the end of this notice.

Basics of Outdoor Safety: Beginner & Intermediate Classes

Instruction in general mountain safety, equipment, route finding, map & compass, off trail navigation, weather, trip planning, nutrition, emergencies in the mountain environment.

Over 55 Basics of Outdoor Safety: Beginner & Intermediate Classes

Same as the regular Basics of Outdoor Safety classes, but designed for people who like to participate in less strenuous hikes at an easier pace.

Backpacking: Beginner & Intermediate Classes

Instruction in backpacking equipment, camp site selection, route finding, map & compass, weather, trip planning, cooking, and emergencies. For those who want take their skills beyond day hiking. Plan to spend Friday & Saturday night outdoors and provide for your own backpacking equipment.

Leadership and Mountain Skills

For those who have good 3-season hiking skills and wish to enhance them to run trips of their own. Exercises in planning, organizing, and conducting trips with emphasis on leadership techniques and group dynamics. Plus the basics of accident scene management, medical considerations, and off-trail navigation. This course is also for those with potential and desire to become Trip Leaders for the NH Chapter.

 

How to Register You must be 18 years or older to attend. There are 2 different ways to get an application for this workshop. Please choose from either of these 2 options:

Option #2 Send a No. 10 (4.125" x 9.5") SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) with one first class stamp to: Lynda Caine, 64 South Bow Rd., Hooksett, NH 03106 Please include your telephone number and send a self-addressed envelope and one first class stamp per each applicant. Do not send any checks or money with your application request. An application will be mailed back to you. When you receive it, please complete the application and send it in with your payment to the address show above. Please send in your payment only with your completed application.

The workshop begins on Friday evening, April 23 at 7:30 pm and ends Sunday afternoon, April 25 at approximately 4:00 pm. The cost is $120.00 for AMC members, $135.00 for non-members, and includes lodging, excellent meals, materials, and instruction. This is a school for everyone who wants to learn and have a great time.
